The procedure starts with general cleaning of the surface. This may be done using toothpaste. Now a special product is applied to make tooth porous. Finally, the filling material is placed over the surface to fill grooves and pits. It gets hardened in few seconds. Dental sealant is an advanced procedure which does not involve any sort of pain and thus the procedure can be carried out without any need of anesthesia.
